The mixes on this page are used with the older Ejay programmes. If any of the mixes contain any samples from the other EJay programmes then you will not be able to hear the full mix unless you have these programmes as well... The mixes are all zipped, because they are faster for you to download. If a mix has any "imported" or "tweeked" samples, they are normally saved into the mix, but it makes the file size much larger. US2K Review: This is one of the mixes from the old Empire competition in 2004, and was made with Ibiza Ejay. It is a very competent techno mix and I think it could have beaten my competition entry at the time, had Johnny Boy brought the mellow atmospheric strings used at the end in a bit earlier. Until I can review it my provisional score is 7 out of 10. I think although a good listen may sound a bit dated now.

US2K Review: This mix is an excellent mellow, early drum and bass techno hybrid. It was made with Techno 2 and was one of the competition entries of the Empire Interactive competition back in 2004. In my opinion it was better than my wiinning entry, and to have acheived something this polished with techno 2 was brilliant. My score is 10 out of 10.

I have already parodied the Orb, this time Good Old Moby gets my respect. This track has it all except the strings from Twin peaks. Guess what? It was made with nothing more than Ejay Dance 4, and I have included the mix file so you can see how I made it.

Here's one for you Nige , this is one of the first mixes i ever produced , done on DE1

US2K Review: This mix begins with a delayed pulsing techno bass line, and the vocal "This is the big beat". Shortly afterwards an acid lead panned right of the stereo field leads the mix to a higher octave bass-line and another vocal "Cmon Cmon Cmon Everybody, this is the Big Beat". A snare roll at the 23 mark introduces the start of a catchy dance synth line to accompany the vocal. After 37 seconds into the mix there is a second snare roll, which introduces a dance groove formed from the lead, a 4 on the floor bass drum pattern and a shaker. The left/right panning acid synth from earlier returns low down in the mix and then a third drum roll announces a another synth on the right-hand of the stereo field which seems to answer the melody of the lead and form a superbly catchy hook. Also the vocals continue to drive the mix periodically in the arrangement. Next as to be expected in any commercial dance track worth listening to is a successive build of drum and percussion layers. The end result at the 1 minute 1 second mark is an addictive sounding dance sound. The mix continues as a dance floor filler until a break at the minute twenty-six second mark. At this point all drums leave the mix except for the bass drum and accent snare. This is accompanied by the acid synth beginning quiet and rising in level and well-placed vocals repeating "This is the Big Beat". The snare is replaced with a shaker and the listener is given a feeling of waiting anticipation and encouragement before at the one minute thirty eight second mark a drum roll and synth stabs introduce the return of the hook and main groove before yet another snare roll introduces a very professional sounding middle eight or bridge section. This is made up of some slow synth sweep sound and initially the vocal from earlier but this changes with a new acid lead synth line, squelchy filter bass and an "Alright" vox adding some well timed brilliant variations to the mix. Then at the 2 minute 19 second mark a short break and a clever combination of vocals from earlier with a "No" followed by a drum roll announces the finale which is a catchy hook consisting of varying arrangements of all the instruments heard earlier in the mix. Also there are Snare rolls, vocals, sweeps and whooshes to add further interest until its conclusion. Also a squelchy acid sound seems to become more powerful towards the end of the mix. The moments before the finish of the mix consist of a "No" vocal, snare roll, and slow removal of instruments leaving the baseline and lead to restate the hook theme. The final ending from the 3 minute 26 mark is a "Hit it" vocal and one final snare roll and whoosh/crash sound. My evaluation of this mix is that is well produced and expertly structured and snare fills whooshes and other sound effects are used with precision to announce changes. The arrangements, stereo positioning and use of delay/reverb etc. are very well done. The melodies and hooks are superbly addictive and just make you want to dance. All in all my score for this mix is 9 out of 10, and I suggest commercial dance lovers have a listen to this mix.

Made on Dance 3 in 2000 using only the packaged samples form the disk, this was made as a test to see how well the software could work with a more rock / metal sound, the vocals had no meaning they was simply to fill in where i thought i could layer original "wav" vocals, after toying with it for a bit i decided that i would leave the lyrics as is (as corny as the words are, they kinda grew on me)

US2K Review: This is track is great despite being made in dance 3 it could easiliy compete with music made with pro software such as Fruity Loops. This dance track has an introduction beginning with guitar sound, followed shortly by open and closed hat, then bass drum. Immediately the mix is foot tapping. 14 seconds into the mix a more exciting guitar variation enters the mix (hook part 1). Shortly after a skilful and well-timed drum roll 24 seconds into the mix the first vocal enters along with a synth bass sound. After a drop of the hats a very catchy catchy and danceable hook is formed from the vocal answering hook part 1. This continues making a great dance experience until at the 56 mark the Drums drop, a middle 8 or bridge is formed from the bass note, and the guitar sound from the introduction accompanied by a second faster guitar riff. After a few seconds the bass drum returns. After a drum roll the main hook returns just in time. At the 1 minute 38 mark the series of other vocals sounding like gang speak, and the guitar riff from the middle 8, drum rolls and a sound effect introduce a finale consisting of the hook, but this time accompanied by cuts of the vocal panned right of the stereo field. The track finally finishes on a final guitar sound. Everything about this mix, particularly taking into consideration of the software originally used is of commercial quality. The use of stereo panning, drum rolls and exciting changes, intelligent use of vocals is faultless. I had to give this mix a score of 10 out of 10. I recommend everyone whether they like rock, pop or dance music have a listen to "It' s Alright", because it is in my opinion considerably more than alright!

Made back in 2000 on Dance 3

US2K Review: This track begins with a typical 90s dance music introduction. The groove gets almost immediately with Synths (main groove hook and theme) and a Latin percussion groove including bass drum, shaker, and bass line. The mix is already very danceable and catchy. There is a well-chosen set of energetic vocals to drive the mix and keep it exciting. 50 seconds into the mix there is a well-timed break in the mix with the vocal "Albright Now", before the main groove returns. At the 1 minute 16 second mark there is a longer break forming a drop of the drums, a bridge on vocal and a difference synthsiser pattern to the main theme. Afterwards at the one minute 40 second mark, the main groove returns with the new synthesiser pattern. After this section has played long enough to give the listener rest from the main groove, a well-timed vox announces a conclusion in the form of the return of the main groove. After about 20 or 30 seconds the mix finishes with the vocal "Stop". This mix is very good, intelligently structured and thought out, with plenty of variation. My score is 7 out of 10.

US2K Review: This is exciting action film movie score techno music. The introduction begins with a catchy acid groove and a bass drum pattern that indicates intensity. This changesto a heavy dance 4 on the floor at the 7 second mark. At the 13 second mark the dum dropsand there is another acid sequence that indicates a break in the action or a moment of thought. When the main groove returns it is joined with a pulsing techno bass line, and succession of acid leads leads which answer each other. This forms very catchy theme main groove lasting for 3 seconds. The drop of the drum again and the acid lead solothat indicates theat intense pause in the action again. After there is a short return of the main groove followedby the pause again. Then the main groove returns but with an additional hi hat and clap variations and succession of atmospheric sound effects, including a sound over the bass drum which sounds like someone knocking on a stone tomb. The final conclusion is after a variation of the acid solo pause. It consists of the main groove with additional percussionchanges of synth line that fit the theme and an unexpected but very functional break where there is a clap and acid line forming a duet. The track has a return of a bass line towards the end that it finishes on. This is an excellent techno film score track that I love, score with 9 out of 10 and reccomend everyone have a listen.

US2K Review: This is mix begins with Latin drums and percussion with atmospheric sounds in the background. Further drums and shakers are added over time. The rhythm compels the listener to want to dance. There are occasional breaks, crashes, reverse cymbals and bird sounds to keep things interesting. After a longer break in the mix with jungle/native sounds and no other instruments or drums the rhythm returns but this time accompanied by chanting native sounds vocal. Lovely strings slowly fade in and a second atmospheric break, which includes a lovely mellow synth lead.

The mix progresses to the return of the Latin/native drum patterns with synths and chants. Eventually the drums solo and are slowly joined by further percussion and an accent clap, and bongos and tabla rolls. The variations are amazing as they sound like live drummers. More vox sounds join the mix to add exciting changes and hooks. A new vocal "We Have Gotta Return" and a rising synth sound introduces the start of a new track is a very mellow 90s style jazz influenced house track. This is lovely, as it kept interesting with percussion variations and rolls.

Later lovely synth organ sounds slowly invite the beat to change to a more basic but adequate house/dance rhythm. The synth becomes more powerful over time until the bass drum drops put emphasis on a trippy/dreamy vocal, shortly after which the synth organ is faded out and new percussion is introduced.

After about 4 minutes there is just bass and percussion until a new vocal effect slowly introduced a new rhythmic synthesiser, then it is bass again with an open hat and bass drum. This does not last for long though as a new snare drum and shaker and vox effects enter the mix successively and what was a Latin house sound is now becoming reminiscent of Kiss Fm. A lovely warehouse synth riff, strings low in the mix and punchy basslines all answering each other make another great tune.

Just when things cannot get better an indian lead vocal adds some atmospheric edge to the mix. Soon percussion similar to the start of the mix returns and a new break with the Indian vocal and mellow synth sounds takes place and then the rhythm returns with the vocal. After the next break when the punchy warehouse synth riffs return and there is a slow blend into the next track which is standard house track, albeit with lovely bongos and other percussion. The standard disco house sound is made obvious by the delayed jazz synth lines, brass stabs and female vocals. This tune is made better by a slowly faded in organ sound, high octave synths, additional brass and vocals.

After 6 minutes there is piano and funk entering the mix although the bongos and general groove and theme from earlier is still evident, made even more apparent by the re-use of the brass stabs. A new house riff is faded in and joined by a really funky bass and high pitched whistling sounds. There are breaks and continental vocal sounds.

The later parts of this dj mix includes lovely brass and spanish vocals, guitars and organs.

My conclusion is this whole atmospheric mix is of such a high standard I had no choice but to score it with 10 out of 10. This an hour of Superb beach party or summer driving music, everyone should download it this summer and listen to it in their car.

This mix was created in 1997 with Dance Ejay 1 and I think it reflects the dance music of the era.

US2K Review: My score is 6 out of 10. I have added a little compression and delay to enhance it little, but it is a good tune anyway especially for a production on dance 1.
