US2K Review: It sounds like an attempt at the comemrcial uplifting sound but does not quite get there due to the chosen melody hook not being memorable enough, but that does not stop it from being a very good production and well worth a listen to everyone who enjoys techno or trance. US2K Review: I could not review or score my own mix but I had... Two Reviewers Name:classicat Comments:Americansouth style lazy crazy beat! Very cool. Clever jazz theme in 21st cent style! Voices relaxed and perfect and not too over the top.... Quality `Big Band` episodes formalised the track and professionalised things.All themes fit well, nice mix of Jazz/Ballad/U.S. south flavour. US2K Review: The mix begins immediately with the basis of a hook riff. This consists of a catchy piano riff, most likely to be chords but I cannot sure, and a drum pattern, including bass drum, clap and full Latin percussion. To keep the mix interesting there is a slow build of accompaniment layers. The first is after 14 seconds, a bass line playing root notes of the chords, and 14 seconds later another instrument, a harpsichord enters the mix right of the stereo field to answer, add energy and drive the existing musical hook pattern, and 66 seconds into the mix there is also another piano melody that completes the arrangement. The chosen progression of the mix is excellent at maintaining interest up to the minute mark, where a significant change takes place. It is interesting that although this musical passage is obviously a middle 8 or bridge that because it also another strong hook that answers the earlier one it acts also like a chorus, and is able to continue as an affective accompaniment for the main hook on the piano when it returns at the one minute 20 second position, and the second piano 16 seconds later. The result is a new variation of the hook that remains catchy until the two-minute fifty-four position in the mix, at which point there is one final change for the concluding musical theme. The conclusion consists of an arrangement consisting of two melody lines answering each other, played by electronic piano, alternative bass line and a more laid back drum pattern. The bass drum leaves the mix at the minute 15-second position to leave the rest of the arrangement to continue to the sudden finish at two minute 30 seconds. Some may not like the abrupt ending but I think because of the there is a delay trail left behind by one of the instruments a natural fade out results. My final analysis of this mix is that the structure is intelligent. Also the choice of musical arrangements and use of fills/crashes etc. to indicate variations or maintain interest is very well done. The melody lines are catchy and the drum patterns are very addictive. The use of stereo positioning, delay reverb and general productions in this mix are excellent but the provisional score of 8 out of 10 stands because this, instrumental version of 'Hot Latina' is not as good as the Vocal version also by John here See More Detail |

US2K Review: This mix begins with a full dance 4 on the floor drum pattern, including bass drum, clap, hats and percussion. This groove very is soon joined by a synthetic flute sound playing a "broken melody". What I mean by this term is that the melody is not constant but intermittent like a backing jazz saxophone player and the notes played are only being used to add interest rather than lead or create a hook. After 16 seconds a more catchy lead melody (hook1) begins on a more artificial trance/techno sound, and then 16 seconds later another change is the additional higher octave and synth string accompaniment melodies that really complement and lift the mix. At the 45 seconds position in the mix there is a drop of the drum pattern and hook 1. This new musical bridge is joined with some atmospheric spooky vocoder vox, and a low octave slightly menacing ancient sounding low octave pad sound. At this point the listener begins to enjoy themselves more. After five seconds the bass drum and snare return, before the full arrangement returns including hook 1 but one of the earlier accompaniment instruments is replaced with the ancient sounding pad. The vocoded vocals continue to make occasional "appearances" and there is some nice coconut percussion at the 1 minute twenty five second mark, the "broken flute melody" leaves the mix followed by hook 1 and a new Egyptian/acid scale based melody takes over as lead. This works effectively with the ancient theme of 'DarkRedKross'.The mix is already extremely catchy but gets even better when the lead line is shortly played by a more percussive sounding instrument later. There is a change from Egyptian to a more 90s acid/techno feel. This lead finishes around two minute thirty three second positions, when the "broken melody" on the synthetic flute returns, the vocoded vox and drums to lead. At the two minute 48 second mix position there is a second bridge where all the drums are dropped. This bridge reintroduces some one of the earlier synthesiser melodies. There is a nice slow reintroduction of percussive instruments until the full groove is reinstated. By the three minute 42 second position the coconut percussion has returned followed by the catchy acid lead. This time pleasingly it lasts longer, for a catchy conclusion. It leaves the mix 22 seconds before the end leaving the menacing low octave synth/pad from the first bridge and drum pattern to finish the mix. The final end is instant but not abrupt, with the tail end of a note from the low octave pad used to smooth things out a little. My evaluation of this 90s dance mix is it is very well structured, has some very catchy musical moments, arrangements are interesting and the ethereal elements are brilliant. My score for this is 8 out of 10 and I recommend everyone listen to this imaginative composition who enjoys 90s dance music. See More Detail |

US2K Review: It of my opinion but this mix does not flow well, changes too many times and has too many ideas. It has some potential though if the structure is improved so that aspects of it are repeated. My score is 5 out of ten, I like the pads at the start and some of the beats. My main suggestion of improvement is to use the pad from the start again later in the mix to give a theme, spread the vocals around more, look for an aspect of the mix you like most and also repeat that in places. US2K Review: This mix begins with some lovely dreamy pads, after which there is very well executed layer build. This begins with a percussion (hats etc), bass drum then bass line, and finally the return of the pad. The resulting musical theme continues until the one minute 6 second position of the mix. After which time there is a break/bridge where the drum pattern leaves the mix leaving the bassline and pads behind for a a 'moment of reflection' for the listener. This works well but I wonder if the bassline leaving too would have enhanced thsi moment. Anyway after the return of the percussion, then drum pattern at the 1 minute 13 second position of the mix a new series of faster acid bass techno lead enter the mix. The result is a more exciting theme to the composition which works well to the two minute mark. From this point despite the slight over use (but not too bad this time) of a 'whale' sound effect, the bass is actually dropped at last resulting in a a very dreamy mellow moment when the pad and percussion duet, and the musical ideas get better and better. When the new layer build begins for the conclusion at around two minutes 48 seconds starting with the alternative 'angrier' sounding bassline, the listener is brought into the realm of Vangelis sci fi techno. All musical ideas from earlier make 'appearances' again but this time with more thought. There is a new whistle/flute lead sequence to add energy and drive the mix from moment the three minute 24 seconds position to the 4:04 position (may be a little long but worked alright). When the whistle leaves the mix there is a slow 'break down' leaving the pad to finish the mix. My score is 9.5 out of 10, nice work. See More Detail |

US2K Review: This mix has the potential to score 10 out of 10 because the structure, vocals, and hook melody lines, breaks, drops of the drums when needed etc. after 49 seconds are excellent. It remiinds me of old skool electro/tech house. The mix is ruined in my opinion by a crash that has way too much presence and loudness in the mix at times especially during the introduction, it threatens to spoil flow of a great mix. Also I like the wind and sound effects but yet again, the same ones are repeated too much at the early part of the mix. Please accept this as a review as I have a massive backlog of reviews to do. My final score is 8 out of 10, despite what I have said which is critical, other than that this is one of your best mixes for ages. See More Detail |

The tune does get to sound a bit samey as it progresses, and maybe needed to break in and out of the main theme, if only to bust it up a bit, but this is quite a deep, trancey mix, laden again with those menacing undertones... The idea and theory is again good here, and apart from the lack of variation, there is the basis of a real good tune lying in some of the sequences, especially in the finale... US2K Review: (Original J-Jay Review) Another eight minute mix with the "dagui" drop-beat sample, but it works much better in this tune...!!! This is a far better quality tune from start to ending, and the whole thing runs through effortlessly and smothly from start to finish... Starts off a bit dark ravey, goes a bit trancey / dancey sort off (lol) then finishes off with even a good running vocal sequence. What the difference is, is that a tune like this, has the old "grab" factor about it, meaning you like what you hear, but you also want to hear what's coming next, because the tune has a hold on you and it's dragging you along with it...!!! US2K Review: This is one of the mixes from the old Empire competition in 2004, and was made with Ibiza Ejay. It is a very competent techno mix and I think it could have beaten my competition entry at the time, had Johnny Boy brought the mellow atmospheric strings used at the end in a bit earlier.
